Join us at the Cape Cinema for a sneak preview benefit screening of the critically acclaimed and upcoming Freud’s Last Session, starring Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins as renowned psychologist Sigmund Freud. The film pairs Hopkins’s Freud with famed 20th-century writer C.S. Lewis, portrayed by Matthew Goode of Downton Abby fame. Whether the two historical figures met is often theorized, but not corroborated, the film’s source material works from the stage play Freud’s Last Session. The play imagines the conversation Freud, a noted atheist, may have had with Lewis, a devout Christian. Set on the eve of WWII and towards the end of his life, Freud’s Last Session sees Freud (Hopkins) invite iconic author C.S. Lewis for a debate over the existence of God. Exploring Freud’s unique relationship with his lesbian daughter Anna and Lewis’ unconventional romance with his best friend’s mother, the film interweaves past, present, and fantasy, bursting from the confines of Freud’s study on a dynamic journey.
All proceeds from the ticket sales, except film rental fees, will be donated to the Cape Cinema. Executive Director Josh Mason and members of the Cape Cinema’s board of directors will be in attendance and briefly introduce themselves and the proposed plans for the Cinema’s future.
